Carnac
When it is hot , Carnac takes some beating, its has a feel of being in Spain .The beach is excellent ,lots of things for the kids and plenty of fancy goods and clothes shops etc to look round .Patience is however needed on finding a suitable parking place if you want to park on the front. The weather can however be fickle, in Carnac it may be fantastic whilst a few miles down the road it's raining. Its worth checking out the weather on the coast if your area inland is dull.
Carnac is also famous for its standing stones. Its several thousand megaliths long predate Stonehenge. In fact Carnac is supposed to have been continuously inhabited longer than anywhere else in the world.
Pontivy
At Pontivy there is an indoor pool (which we tried on our last visit, check beforehand for opening times because sometimes there are set periods for schools)and a bowling alley which was excellent ,the staff programming the console for us.
We also visited a family circus in August last year at Cleguerec ,all run by the father and mother and six children. There was just seating for 30 and basically all the family took part in the show.
Final picture of Pontivy is of the Nantes Brest canal. The story of the canal is that Napoleon ordered it built in the 19th century because Brittany's roads were difficult to travel on between the two major ports and the British navy a threat to anything going by sea.It is 600 km long, has 325 locks and took 38 years to construct.Unfortunately Napoleon died in 1821 in St Helena before it was finished .Pontivy has at various times in history called itself Napoleonville.
Bon Repos-Le Pays de Conomor
This is a spectacular evening show with a cast of 400 using 1200 costumes and 40 horses , telling the story of the abbey over the ages. One of the great scenes is when a pack of hounds streaks to and fro across the front of the abbey following a scent.
Be sure to wrap up warm, the French take cushions etc.Don't forget a torch for when you return to your car which may be quite a distance from the abbey, parked on the road in the forest.
L'Etang Du Chateau Corlay. This is the 12th century castle ruin at Corlay which is surrounded by a moat.Corlay is more famously known for its horse breeding and racing with its own equestrian museum.
View from the courtyard towards Chateau Josselin.Josselin Castle saw an important role during the 100 years war and the concurrent Breton civil war.The battle of the "thirty " in 1351 is still remembered in the town.Thirty knights from the French garrison in Josselin fought against thirty from the English garrison in Ploermel. The French won.
Another view of Chateau Josselin from the road leading to the bridge over the river Oust.
